Flocked Rollers — Usage

Flocked rollers

Our customers often ask us about flocked rollers. What are they and what are they used for?

A flocked roller is a combination of a foam roller with flock. Textile fibres — so-called flock — are applied to adhesive-coated foam in a special electrostatic chamber. The textile fibres are made of polyamide with a length of 0.3 mm to 3.0 mm. They are abrasion-resistant and have very good resilience after compression.

The foam used for production must have a density of at least 35 kg/m³ — lower density causes the roller to "collapse" when picking up paint.

Properties and usage

Thanks to the described properties, flocked rollers spread paint and varnishes excellently without foaming them, so no air bubbles form on the painted surface.

Flocked rollers are ideal for:

Note: Due to the properties of the foam, these rollers are not suitable for aggressive paint solvents.

Does the roller colour matter?

In shops you will find flocked rollers in various colours. Does it matter?

Tool distributors want to visibly distinguish the use of different tools — they mark this on the label or by the chosen colour of the roller or brush. However, standard flocked rollers are always manufactured in the same way, so the colour of the roller or its cap has no effect on the tool's properties and its use.
